Farmscape for April 17, 2025
The Swine Health Information Center is inviting qualified researchers from U.S. or internationally based academic, private or government institutions to submit research proposals under its 2025 Plan of Work Research Program.
The Swine Health Information Center has allocated 1.5 million dollars for research under its "2025 Plan of Work Research Program."
SHIC Executive Director Dr. Megan Niederwerder explains the request for research proposals is intended to assist the center in fulfilling its mission to protect and enhance the U.S. swine herd by minimising the impact of emerging disease threats through targeted research investment.
Clip-Dr. Megan Niederwerder-Swine Health Information Center:
The research program focusses on five strategic pillars or priorities with specific topic areas listed under each pillar.
The pillars include improving swine health information, monitoring and mitigating the risk to swine health, responding to emerging diseases, surveillance and discovery of emerging disease and the swine disease matrices.
We're really looking at the proposals and how they address those 2025 plan or work priorities to help improve U.S. preparedness, prevent emerging disease entry and enable rapid mitigation of pork production impact from any disease.
Really what's most important is the value that it provides to the U.S. pork industry.
We want to understand how collaborative research projects may contribute to project success.
We also want to look at projects that demonstrate the most urgent and timeliness of completion so that we can provide that information back to pork producers as quickly as possible.
Also thinking about efficient use of time and efficient use of dollars that are going to be allocated towards these projects is really important as we look at value to the pork industry.
Dr. Niederwerder notes the proposal template and full instructions can be found at swinehealth.org and proposals are due by 5:00 pm central time April 30th.
