Food Influencers Get First Hand Saskatchewan Agriculture Experience
Clinton Monchuk - Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan

Farmscape for August 1, 2018

Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan has taken the story of what goes into producing food in Saskatchewan to those who can help share that story with a much larger audience.
Last week Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan hosted its 2018 Food Influencer Tour, an annual event in which invited educators, food writers, food bloggers, travel writers, film producers and dieticians have the opportunity to speak directly with the people who produce food in Saskatchewan.
Clinton Monchuk, the Executive Director of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan, explains information about what goes into food production in Saskatchewan is shared with these food influencers and they can then share it with their audiences.

Clip-Clinton Monchuk-Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan:
We tend to actually speak to individuals who are just like us.
We talk to a lot of other farmers and ranchers in the neighborhood, which is great.
We have to keep on doing that and speak to the people in our community but having food influencers coming from Toronto or Pennsylvania or Vancouver helps us get into an audience that I can't get into.
Having that engagement with those food influencers then allows our stories to be told to a wider base.
Having that wider base of consumers actually hear from somebody else how we produce eggs on our farm or cattle on the ranches here in Saskatchewan helps consumers understand a little bit better when it comes to purchasing food in the grocery store.
I'll give you an example of that.
We had one of the influencers a couple of years ago.
She was a dietician from Vancouver that was out at the farm on our farm tours and then wrote an article about the ten top things she learned about Saskatchewan Agriculture.
Her article hit a quarter of a million individuals.
I could not do that and that is why we try and bring those individuals in, have them experience Saskatchewan agriculture so they can write about it.

Monchuk says having these individuals talk to their clients or write about Saskatchewan agriculture is another way to engage consumers.
For Farmscape.Ca, I'm Bruce Cochrane.
