Those Involved in Food Production Encouraged to Join Conversation with Consumers
Trish Jordan - Monsanto Canada

Farmscape for March 5, 2018

The Director of Public and Industry Affairs with Monsanto Canada suggests those involved in food production need to be more involved in sharing their story with the public.
"When the Opposition Plays Dirty" will be discussed as part of the 2018 London Swine Conference, set for March 27th and 28th.
Trish Jordan, the Director of Public and Industry Affairs with Monsanto Canada, says over the past five to ten years we've seen a well funded vocal minority stepping up its attacks on the tools of modern agriculture,

Clip-Trish Jordan-Monsanto Canada:
If we don't stand up and tell our story, really what can happen is that farmers are going to lose access to those tools and that could be devastating for individual farmers, for the agricultural economy as a whole and, more importantly, for consumers.
A lot of tools that are being plied by farmers in modern agriculture really are helping farmers to lessen agriculture's impact on the environment and consumers do want farmers to use less.
They want them to waste less food and some of these tools really help them to do that.
Whether it's conserving land or using less water or using less energy, those are things that we have in common with what consumers are looking for.
Whether you have an interest n the environment or quality food, it's just often sometimes there's a difference of opinion.
With the very active activist voices, they're creating a lot of noise and confusion.
There's even people that want us to go back to how we farmed 50 years ago.
They have a very romantic ideal of what farming should be.
It should be a mom and a dad and a kid and you should have a chicken and a pig and maybe some grain and it's completely disconnected from the reality from where agriculture is today not only in North America but around the globe.

Jordan suggests everyone involved in agriculture needs to join the conversation and engage with the public.
