Those Involved in Agriculture Encouraged to Share the Story of Agriculture
Clinton Monchuk - Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan

Farmscape for August 2, 2017

The Executive Director of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan says it's critical for those in agriculture to be involved in helping consumers understand why farmers do what they do.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan is accepting nominations for its second annual Food and Farming Champion Award until September 30.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Executive Director Clinton Monchuk explains the award was created to recognize individuals who are going above and beyond in telling the story of agriculture.

Clip-Clinton Monchuk-Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan:
For example Dr. Leigh Rosengren was the individual award winner last year.
She's done a lot of work explaining to consumers why the cattle industry or the livestock industries use antibiotics and talks about it from a personal example on her own farm and as a mother as well and why the industry uses antibiotics and why it's safe for us to eat these, whether it's beef, chicken or poultry, that has been given antibiotics.
To have that personal connection, when a mother from Saskatoon or Winnipeg or Calgary reads that they can relate with them.
Similarly SaskCanola was the other recipient of the award last year for the work that they did around social license, explaining to people the significant advancements that we've done in the canola industry here in Saskatchewan and Canada and what it's meant for people all over the world and the joy and the success that we have with that industry because they've been advancing that.
These are things that we definitely want to celebrate first of all but second of all make sure that others in the industry take note of what they're doing and try to achieve similar kind of status in terms of getting out and talking to consumers.

This year's winner  will be named December 14 during Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan's Farms at the Table Conference in Saskatoon.
