Farmscape for July 5, 2017

Proceeds raised from this year's Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival in Kipling will benefit a variety of community based youth projects.
The Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival, held in Kipling, was created five years ago to raise money to upgrade the local youth centre.
The annual event allows chefs and home cooks to enter dishes, each of which must feature bacon, and complete for trophies and the chance to advance to the Canadian Food Championships.
Scott Kearns, the Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival's Founder of the Feast, says this year's event was a tremendous success, although ticket sales didn't match those of last year.

They were down a little bit this year.
There was whole lot of other events going on in the area, school ball tournaments and things like that but we were still quite pleased with the crowd.
All the money goes to the youth of the community.
There's a possibility that they're building a skate park and the swimming pool has received some and the youth centre has received some.
Maybe a splash park is in the offing too.
We put it toward funds like that.
We'd like to give a big shout out to our sponsors.
Our big sponsor is PIC Canada, who supplied the t-shirts that we gave away to ticket holders, McMillan Motor Products and Gee Bee Construction and of course Sask Pork, Saskatchewan Pork Producers.

We'd like to thank them and thank everybody who came out to make this event a success.

This year's winners, which included Susie Cinns from Emerald Park who topped both the Chef Savory and Chef Sweet categories, Lisa LaRochelle from Kipling who claimed the prize for Home Cook Savory and the Home Cook Sweet winner PIC Canada, have the option to move on to the Canadian Food Championships in Edmonton July 21 to 23.
