NPPC Applauds President Trump's Stand on Environmental Regulations that Impact Agriculture
Michael Formica - National Pork Producers Council

Farmscape for June 16, 2017

The National Pork Producers Council is applauding the stand being taken by the Trump Administration on environmental rules that impact agriculture.
The Waters of the United States rule, which broadens the U.S. government's power to regulate water on private land, took effect in 2015 but it's since been tied up in the courts and in May the Trump administration proposed a regulation to rescind the rule.
Michael Formica, the Assistant Vice President and Counsel Domestic Policy with the National Pork Producers Council, applauds the stand being taken by the President when it comes to environmental regulations impacting agriculture.

Clip-Michael Formica-National Pork Producers Council:
The President did two important things.
The first thing he did was he signed an executive order requiring agencies, prohibiting them from issuing a new rule unless they develop two rules that they're going to get rid of.
We just like that.
Across the board, after 45 years, there's lots of rules that have been developed.
Some of them still work, a lot f them don't work, they're outdated, it just becomes a paperwork burden, they're not protecting the environment.
You change your computer every few years, you change your cloths every few years because they go out of style or they wear out.
The same thing happens with regulations over time.
They just wear out and they need to be removed but the federal agencies never do this so that order is going to force that to happen.
The second thing he did was he issued an executive order requiring the EPA to look at the Waters of the United States rule making and see if it was sound or if it needed to repealed or they need to reform it.
After doing that review the Environmental Protection Agency has gone ahead and they're in the process of repealing the rule.

Formica notes, if and when the WOTUS rule is repealed the Environmental Protection Agency is expected to propose a new regulation to define Waters of the United States and seek broad public input on the revised definition.
