Those Involved in Agriculture Encouraged to Talk About Agriculture
Clinton Monchuk - Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan

Farmscape for April 10, 2017

The Executive Director of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan warns, if those involved in agriculture fail to tell their story, others who are less knowledgeable will fill the void.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan has issued the call for nominations for its second annual Food and Farming Champion Award, a recognition of organizations and individuals who have helped to promote and build public trust in Saskatchewan Agriculture.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Executive Director Clinton Monchuk says more and more consumers have questions about food so the idea of this award is to showcase the leadership of those who are striving to answer those questions.

Clip-Clinton Monchuk-Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan:
Over the years we've become a little bit complacent in how we've gone about talking about the agriculture industry and what happens when we don't speak about the issue, there is sometimes a little bit of a void that exists.
This void can be filled by others that don't have any knowledge about the agriculture industry and I think you see that on the social media front where people who really aren't scientists, researchers or doctors have different views about food and agriculture and then put their views out to their followers which then has the ability to actually change a demographic and how they consume food.
What we're trying to do with this is actively promote what we're doing to produce healthy nutritious food here in this province and  this country.
I think any opportunity we have to get out into the public and show consumers that not only are we proud of what we do but we are very transparent about how we're doing it.
We want to make sure that consumers know the facts about their food so they don't go to some of these fringe groups for their information.
Rather they go directly to the sources of the individuals who are producing the food.

The Food and Farming Champion Award nomination deadline is September 30 and nominations can be submitted by visiting farmfoodcaresk.ca.
The award will be presented at Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan annual meeting in December.
