Inaugural Food & Farming Champion Award Winners Named
Clinton Monchuk - Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan

Farmscape for December 19, 2016

Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan has named two winners of its inaugural "Food & Farming Champion Award."
Last week, as part of its "Farms at the Table Conference" Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan presented its inaugural Food & Farming Champion Award.
The award recognizes those who work to advocate for and inspire public trust in agriculture.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Executive Director Clinton Monchuk says two winners were named, one individual and one organization.

The individual who won the award was Dr. Leigh Rosengren.
She is a veterinarian and epidemiologist as well as a beef producer from Midale, Saskatchewan.
She's been very influential in getting out to consumers and talking about antimicrobial resistance and use, including blogging about why ranchers, poultry producers use antibiotics and how they use them in responsible ways but also talking to the industry people about  different ways and methods to curtail some of the use and try and realize some of the consumer issues around antimicrobial use.
In terms of the organization, the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission won the award for organization and this was mainly due to their "license to Farm" documentary.
It's been an absolutely excellent method of getting out to the general public about maybe some misconceptions around the use of genetically modified crops as well as other crops and livestock that farmers are growing here in Saskatchewan.
This documentary was viewed over 80,000 times in 163 different countries and made two million social media impressions which is absolutely excellent in terms of getting out and getting into the consumer eye and trying to build the consumer trust in the industry.

Monchuk says we need to showcase and build support for efforts to promote public trust in agriculture.
For Farmscape.Ca, I'm Bruce Cochrane.
