Farmscape for June 20, 2016

Organizers of the Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival report the 2016 edition of the annual event raised approximately $9,000.00 to support local youth.
The 2016 Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival, held Saturday in Kipling Saskatchewan, allowed ticket holders to sample a variety of recipes, all of which must contain bacon, prepared by local amateur home cooks and professional chefs.
Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival Organizer Scott Kearns says there was a wide variety of recipes to sample.

We had 16 chefs and home cooks and I believe there was 19 dishes that people could try, all made with bacon of course.
We had things such as bacon caramels, we had bacon wrapped shrimp and candied bacon.
We had just some amazing dishes.
The main winner was Daryl Sproule from Lafleche and we had Stacey Miskiman from Kipling.
The TD Canada Trust Team won and the Paper Clip Cottage Restaurant.
There were winners in 4 categories, Home Cook Sweet and Home Cook Savory and Chef Sweet and Chef Savory.
These people will automatically qualify to go to the Canadian Food Championships in Edmonton which is later in July and they win a red ticket into that.

Kearns says a portion of the approximately $9,000.00 raised through this year's event will go toward refurbishing the outside of the Kipling Youth Centre and a portion may be assigned to the BMX bike park which is being planned for the community.
