Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival Proceeds to Remain in Community
Scott Kearns - Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival

Farmscape for June 1, 2016

The organizer of the Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival says proceeds gathered through the event will help youth and will remain in the community.
About 300 bacon lovers are expected to be on hand in Kipling June 18 for the annual Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival.
Ticket purchasers have the opportunity to sample a variety of recipes, all of which contain bacon, prepared by home cooks, local restaurants and gold plate chefs who will be competing for a trophy and the opportunity to advance to the Canadian Food Championships.
Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival organizer Scott Kearns says the festival is an annual event that raises money for local youth charities.

Clip-Scott Kearns-Great Saskatchewan Bacon Festival:
We started it to just have some fun and raise some funds as well.
Our proceeds go to the youth of our community.
We have re-done the outside of the local youth centre, refinished the building and added murals to it.
Then there will be a portion which will be going to our new BMX bike park.
It started on coffee row.
We were looking for something different to raise funds with other communities around us.
What it is is we bring in home cooks and professional chefs and they create dishes.
Our only requirement is they have to have bacon in them in some way, shape or form.
Ticket purchasers can come in and sample each of these dishes, have a small sample of them.

Kearns says this is family friendly event with something for everyone from toddlers to senior citizens and, in addition to the great food, features a bouncy castle and face painting and live musical entertainment.
